24 Hour Comic Day – 2016

September 14th, 2016 by MarkMonlux

Every year, on the first Saturday of October, an open challenge is issued cartoonists across the world to conceive, write, sketch and ink a 24 page comic in twenty-four hours. The Cartoonists League of Absurd Washingtonians aka: The CLAW and Tacoma Games are taking the challenge. This will be the 6th year that the CLAW has lead Tacoma’s cartoonist in the challenge, it will be the 2nd year that Tacoma Games will host the venue. Regardless of your skill level, the 24-Hour Comic Day challenge it a test of your creativity, wit, guile, and endurance. The CLAW challenges you to join this epic undertaking.

The Venue:
Tacoma Games
2509 6th Ave.
Tacoma, WA 98406

 The Date:
Saturday, October 1st — Sunday, October 2nd

 The Time
The challenge starts at 10:00 a.m. Saturday and ends at 10:00 a.m. Sunday.

Due to a finite amount of table space available, and for logistics, participants are asked to register in advance.

The CLAW is using this event as a fundraiser for its Student Scholarship Fund. Donate $20 and be drawn into a panel by a Talon of CLAW. Donate $30 and choose your artist. Bribes are encouraged.

International Captain Picard Day Community Art Show

Inspired by International Captain Picard Day Art shows featured in other cities, Jennevieve Schlemmer brought the idea of the CLAW and Destiny City Comics sponsoring such a show to the Council of Four-Eyes. The membership loved the idea and by unanimous finger pointing appoint Talon #21 aka: Jennevieve Schlemmer to the task of curator and head honcho in charge. Its through was only through her many hours of hard work that the Captain Picard Day Art Show and Festival became a reality.

The amount of art submitted was inspiring, as was the artwork itself. Early submissions revealed via social media encouraged other artists to create submissions. A buzz was being felt by everyone involved. When the evening of June 16th rolled around Destiny City Comics found its aisles filled with Captain Picard admirers. Many prizes were given out and we wish a prize could go to everyone in the show. A special thanks to judges Amy McBride (Tacoma City Arts Administrator) and Dan Long (Grand Cinema House Manager). They certainly had their task cut out for them. As did everybody who voted for the People’s Choice award. It really was a tough choice selecting a favorite. Additional thanks to the folks who participated in the costume competition.

The Captain Picard Day Art Show and Festival will remain up on the walls of Destiny City Comic through the month of June. Please stop by the store and take a close look at the display in person. You can pick up a newly minted-and free-Star Trek Activity themed Zine produced by the CLAW. There is also a table where you can find art and publications of the participating artists on sale. And of course most of the art is for sale as well.
