CLAW August Updates

The Cartoonist’s League of Absurd Washingtonians (or C.L.A.W. to the less pedantic), welcomes a new Talon!  Steve Garvin has joined the ranks of the ignoble, being accepted by the Four-Eye Council and the membership in general as member #25 during July’s Open Swim gathering!  Your sympathies on his behalf are appreciated.
The CLAW’s wildly popular Freelance Fandango meetings continue to draw a small but enthusiastic crowd of workaholics!  Every Monday at 1pm, head over to Corina’s Bakery (602 Fawcett, next to The Grand Theater) for lively discussion or casually intensive drawing–whatever the mood incites!
In July, esteemed Talon of the CLAW, Stan! released “Dungeoneering 101”, a coloring & activity book for sale in PDF (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/152418/Dungeoneering-101-Activity-Book).  If you’ve got young’uns who like to weild their mighty crayons or even if you are an adult that needs a good chuckle, then please check out Brother Stan’s latest and greatest!
The August Open Swim meeting, held as usual at King’s Books on St. Helens in lovely downtown Tacoma will be called “Twists on Twilight”!  How could you possibly improve on the fantastical journey that is the Twilight franchise? Why, by combining it with other beloved movies, TV shows or cartoon characters, of course.  Join us on August 26th at 7:30pm for the ensuing hilarity!

SHUT UP AND DRAW with THE CLAW

Wednesday 22nd at 7:30 PM at Kings Books at a round table surrounded by FEZ wearing cartoonists of the elite and secret Cartoonists League of Absurd Washingtonians (the C.L.A.W.) YOU can sit and DRAW WITH THE CLAW!  NO GAMES! NO TRICKS! Just fingers-to-paper full concentration drawing of cartoons… and when we’re done, we will do a college class style round table critique/show&tell.  Hang out and Draw. That’s it. Maybe scratch the Kings Books cat on the head too. Bring a sketch book or something you’re working on too if you want us to give you feedback on that as well.  We are professionals! Our opinion is worth something… maybe.  Anyway it’s fun. We are absurd cartoonists, it’s in our name.

OPEN SWIM: CLAW Draws Hobo Dollars!

CLAW TEAM ASSEMBLE! Hark! You too can join the elite, spongy talons of The Cartoonists League of Absurd Washingtonians as we adulterate crisp $1 bills with clever and biting imagery as demonstrated in these YOU TUBE videos. BEHOLD:

FAQ: What is HOBO Money? A: Hobo money is a cynical art form derived from hobos traveling long stretches in box cars. For amusement hobos would scratch crude images into nickles with a pen knife or rusty nail. Such “Hobo Nickles” are highly prized by collectors and hobo aficionados. WE of the CLAW would like to revitalize this lost and dying art form…

RULES: You must bring your own dollar bill (foreign and higher denomination bills earn extra points)!  You must also bring a pen, or a black pencil and white pencil… OR however method you want to use to HACK your dollar. OPTIONAL: The CLAW would also like to keep whatever art you create to be included in an upcoming art show. YOU COULD ALREADY BE A WINNER: Participants will be asked to vote on favorite bills, there will be prizes!
