RR Anderson, it really seems that you are obsessed with Jeremy Gregory's artwork. You seem so focused on it, why not focus on your own work and keep building.

Instead of criticizing other artists.. why don't you put that energy into your own work and make it the best you can. Do what you want.. but, carrying around all the resentment is a heavy burden and it only hurts you.

Concentrate on what you want more of

RR Anderson doesn't deserve your scorn, he deserves your forgiveness!! Have you seen the video of his apology to Greggory? His sincerity is genuine and his regret palpable! Anderson has built a bridge of remorse! I call on Jeremy Greggory to build a bridge of forgiveness!!

I think I'd like to see Jeremy do some homeless robots. I think all the critiques of the critics are too critical. Two great artists with very different personalities and styles. I know them both (a little bit) and I'd like to think both are getting the acclaim they are seeking. They might even wink nod at each other, I hope. Love 'em both!

Put down the spray cans n' learn some human anatomy you young whipper snappers! At least the volcano pays for art! Well, not in my case anymore... but you get the point. And yes.. most of my cartoons didn't make any sense... so what? You can't just turn around and critique the art critic! That's art anarchy, and I'll have no part in it. GOOD DAY SIR!

Oh wait.. Weren't your pencil sketchy cartoons that looked like wanna be superheroes and made no sense at all in the Volcano? Now i see why you don't like jeremys cartoons. Totally different aesthetic. Maybe if True Grit was penciled by Stan Lee or even Jim Lee it might meet you're approval... 'Nuff said

Am I Jealous of Jeremy Greggory the artist? Well maybe I am. He has the rugged good looks, the fawning art-babe groupies, the adulation of an arts magazine that is unwilling to pay artists/photographers who contribute to their publication...

And why? Because he can't draw hands? Because he couldn't pick out a complementary color to save his life? Because he can't draw make-believe lady columnists as sexy as before?

I don't NEED color in my cartoon. I get along just fine with grey scale thank you very much. COLOR? Bah humbug.

As to the content, maybe I'd like TRUE GRIT more if it went after the causes of Tacoma's 'gritty' homelessness, 'gritty' addiction, 'gritty' blight... but then he might run afoul of encore media an their corporate overlords.

TRUE GRIT could be a call to action, instead it's a minstrel show.

I still like Jeremy Greggory the artist.

I think maybe RR has a little jealousy going on
being.... Self proclamed "TACOMIC"... He is not getting
recognition.......Jeremy IS
also Jeremy's True Grit is edgy and funny without being offensive. Where as.... RR
"My fellow citizens, I simultaneously announce my resignation of POLITICAL CARTOONIST..... the continuous stream of frivolous ethics complaints have become too much of a burden for these community newspapers."

I did check out some of his comics...
Basic black&white drawings....No "color tretments"
OR showing of "Tacoma's atractive people"
As for the subject matter there is the reason
it's called "True Grit" and I'm sure even
the Atractive People of Tacoma can find
humor in it....

Why can't they be? Why should he draw sunshine happy tacoma people? But i guess we should listen to your opinion. You are the "critic".

Quite the contrary my friend! I am very familiar with his other works, that is why I find the final version of TRUE GRIT so curious.

All i'm sayin' is that if TRUE GRIT is the best Tacoma can do then we've got a long way to go as a city. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm one of crack smoking crazy people in his cartoon. Somebody call Fantagraphics and shut me up.

(the opinions in this thread are of one sad guy and in no way reflect the overall good natured friendly opinions of everyone else associated with CLAW)

wow...i'm feelin the love. those "sea of grey-halibut-lumpy-gargoyle skin tones" is what makes Jeremy's art uniquely Jeremy's. It's "True Grit" not "It's always Sunny in Tacoma Grit". It's clever & funny!

Question is...why didn't the volcano ask RR Anderson to render the columists while he was working for them?

Seriously! During Clear Channel's CONSTITUTIONS MATTER acts of billboard terrorism I was very impressed with Mr. Gregory's headless-man billboard art improvements. His wooden calculator 'boobs' art sculptures are marvelous. His TRUE GRIT initial sketches are lovely... my only criticism is that during the color-pencil black background leg of the creative journey the initial energy of the pencil sketch is lost in the sea of grey-halibut-lumpy-gargoyle skin tones. I'd like to see less garish color treatments. Look to the artist RAY TROLL as an example of great color pencil work. RAY TROLL's illustrations always look alive. I live in Tacoma, I don't need to be reminded of the grey brooding misery. All that does is reinforce the negative stereotypes. And the content of the cartoons! Can we move away from the nightmare-meth-hipster-junkie-families? There are attractive people living here, why not show that off? I am reminded of Mr. Gregory's author columnist illustrations in the Volcano.. that had replaced the sexy fashion show style drawings.. People complained that the new 'true grit' style made all the women look like orcs. These illustrations were then replaced by slightly less hideous drawings, but eventually they went back to using photos. Maybe it's different now. See I was fired from the Volcano because nobody likes a critic. Tacoma has a reputation for not having any real art critics. Why? Because everyone is friends with everyone and nobody wants to hurt anyones feelings. In the big picture ART suffers.

Please! this is a no pissing zone! I haven't figured out how to do constructive criticism in MS Paint yet... but will keep you posted. Truth be told Jeremy Gregory is a very skilled artist. I have favorited many many flickr pics of his art. I'm afraid that constructive criticism delivered in an obscure comment thread will be even less funny than MS Paint.

Poking fun is one thing, but pissing all over a young comics potential by shoddily attempting a parody, is quite another. As there are few comics being supported here in Tacoma, I highly suggest helping Jeremy Gregory in his efforts! You may find someday, that constructive criticism is what fuels the fire, and using your resources to \poke fun\ is a waste of your time. Looking forward to your response in the next issue of the Volcano, a publication out of Lakewood, which, if you check the map is not located in Tacoma either.
